Learn How to Start Follower Pumps

Follower plate pumps are a type of barrel pump used for pumping highly viscous liquids. They are applied in food manufacturing, resin dispensing and gluing applications.

When pumping, the follower plate is lowered slowly into the barrel to avoid air ingress. Check the packing gland and tighten it when needed.
How to Start a Follower Pump

FOLLOWER PUMPS are a dime a dozen but they’re not all created equal. In fact, the most common type of follower pump is the scooping piston type that resembles an old fashioned screwdriver. The good news is that most of these pumps are a breeze to operate. In the video below you’ll see one of our master mechanics demonstrate just how easy it is to start a reciprocating piston pump with the minimum of fuss. To help you out, we’ve assembled a short checklist of the most important components you need to get the job done. The most important component is the hopper.
Follower Shaft

A cam follower is an important part of a cam-driven machine. It is used to convert the rotation of a cam shaft into linear motion. This is important for many industrial applications because it reduces the need for bearings.

A cam follower mechanism can be designed in many ways to meet specific requirements. It is important to choose the right follower design, because it affects how the cam works and how well it performs.

The first step in designing a cam mechanism is to determine the coordinates of the knife edge. This can be done by computing the angular displacement of the knife edge in relation to time or the rotary angle of the cam.

This angular displacement should be small, because it can affect the efficiency of the cam. It can also be large, but it is less important.

For this reason, a symmetrical follower is ideal. Unlike an elliptical or circular shape, a symmetrical design can be sized to fit the required pressure angle without increasing the overall size of the cam.

Another consideration when deciding on the shape of the follower is the material it will be used to pump. In some situations, the material may be too viscous to be pumped through a standard follower plate.

When the material is too viscous, the plate that closes tight to the wall of the barrel can squeeze out air, which can cause the material to be pushed into the intake socket instead of being raised in it. This can result in waste and process breakdown.

To avoid this, the follower plate must be lowered slowly into the material to ensure that it is lifted in the center of the barrel. This can be done using a weighted follower plate.

A weighted follower plate is especially useful when using a follower plate for pumping very viscous material. The weight helps to eliminate the air pockets that can occur in the material and prevent the material from being sucked into the pump.
Follower Rod

Follower pumps are a basic part of automatons and can be used for a variety of tasks. They are particularly useful for dispensing liquids and resins. In addition, they are a common tool for pumping grease into grease guns.

Unlike ordinary pumps, follower plates are designed to raise and lower slowly. This ensures that the amount pumped and the amount lifted by the plate are always the same. ปั้มไลค์ is important for a variety of applications, including resin dispensing and gluing.

Start by cutting out a long rectangular section from the front of the box. This will act as a guide for the rod and automaton. It should be about the same size as the rod dowel.

Next, poke a hole through the center of the top of the box and insert the rod dowel. It’s a good idea to add a short length of drinking straw to this as well, which will act as a bearing and help the rod move up and down.

It’s a good idea to apply a thin coating of lubricant to the rod dowel and the follower rod. This will keep them lubricated and prevent corrosion from occurring.

After this, assemble the cam axle and wheel by simply sliding them onto the wheel. It’s a simple, straightforward process and one that should be relatively painless.

Before assembling the wheel, it’s best to test it out to make sure that everything is working correctly. This is especially important for newcomers to automata, as this will give you a feel for how to set the wheel up before actually putting it together.

There are a wide variety of plug followers on the market today, many of which are extremely useful and others that are completely useless. At Red Team Tools, we’ve spent a lot of time reviewing and testing these products to find out which ones are truly useful, and which ones don’t.
Follower Assembly

A follower plate is a type of pump that is used to pump highly viscous materials. These pumps are applied in a variety of industries, including food manufacturing, resin dispensing, gluing and more.

Usually, the follower plate is attached to the intake socket of a scooping piston or eccentric screw pump by means of a banjo fitting. However, a follower plate is also available in other configurations, such as in a bung drum or threaded for connection to a manifold.

To start the pump, remove the old rings and install the new ones from your kit (the arrows indicate the appropriate order). Next, insert the cam follower into the bore of the pump. You might want to oil the circumference of the follower, as this is a good way to prevent a dry start and surface galling.

After the new cam follower is installed, it is time to tighten the nuts that hold it in place. Make sure to tighten the nuts finger-tight, but not too hard. This will help the follower get started and will give you some confidence in your new pump.

You can adjust the follower to control leakage by turning the gland follower nuts one flat or 3/4 of a turn every 30 minutes, until you get an acceptable leak rate. This will keep the water from soaking through the stuffing box and affecting the efficiency of the pump. Taking this into consideration will help your pump run smoothly for a long time to come.
